My word for 2025 was thrive. I imagined a year full of growth, momentum, and smooth wins, but the universe had it's own definition. Thriving didn't always look like I expected. Sometimes it meant leaning into challenges, facing heartbreaks, and pivoting when life didn't go according to plan. Sometimes it even meant sneaking grapes under the table at midnight to shift love in my life this year. It's a small funny ritual that reminded me to keep my heart open. Throufgh it all, I learned that thriving isn't about what happens around you, but what you choose to grow into, no matter the season.
Some years feel like three rolled into one, and this has been one of them for me. As I step into the last month of the year, I’ve been looking back at the highs, the lows, and the quiet moments in between…the ones that shape you in ways you don’t always see right away.
Coming home from Europe was harder than I expected. I thought I’d land with momentum and support, ready to build the next chapter. Instead, life shifted under my feet. My mom’s health took a turn, and most days I was moving between worry, caregiving, and the simple hope that she’d feel better soon. At the same time, my kids needed distance to figure out life with their dad. I had to respect their space, even when it stretched my heart thin.
And somewhere in the middle of all that, a few friendships slipped into conflict. Miscommunication can break things you thought were unshakeable, and it stings when relationships sour in ways you never saw coming. But the people who showed up…the ones who pulled me through, checked on me, encouraged me, and reminded me I wasn’t alone…they outweighed the bad by far. They were the reminder that even in tough seasons, the right people hold steady.
This year asked a lot of me. I kept giving (more than I received at times) and there were days when I felt like I was pouring from an empty cup. But here’s what I’m proud of: I didn’t lose myself.
Even on the hard days, I held tight to the dream that’s been pulling me forward. I’m finally turning dental fear into prevention and wellness, and creating a place where people feel understood instead of ashamed or afraid. That mission kept me grounded. It reminded me that purpose can carry you through the parts of life that don’t make sense yet.
I kept creating. I kept writing. I kept building Gums & Gossip and the story of Hope…literally and figuratively. And while I was helping others, I was learning how to help myself too. Small routines, deep breaths, honest reflection, and giving myself permission to pivot when life demanded it.
This year taught me that strength isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s choosing to keep going when everything around you feels unsteady. Sometimes it’s caring for your family even when you feel stretched. Sometimes it’s trusting that the dream you’re chasing is worth the effort, even when the road feels lonely.
So as I close out the year, I’m holding onto the energy that’s carried me this far: resilience, creativity, gratitude, and Hope. (Both the name and the spirit.)
If your year felt heavy too, I hope you know this: you’re allowed to keep choosing yourself, even when life tests you. You can rebuild while you’re hurting. You can create while you’re healing. You can rise even when no one is clapping.
And you can walk into a new year with a heart that’s learned, stretched, and somehow grown stronger.
Here’s to a new year, continued growth, and the journey of Hope-showing up, speaking up, and moving forward with heart. May it bring clarity, peace, and the courage to keep going.
Cheers!
